I finished the body of my Rocky Coast. Last weekend we took a little road trip to visit my sister-in-law and her family. Naturally, I brought my knitting. I brought a few projects. My Rocky Coast and then two simple things. One that was almost finished, so of course, I brought a backup simple project - just in case. Four and a half blissful hours each way to knit to my heart's content.

Uhh, not really. If you've ever traveled with toddlers, you know that long car rides are anything but blissful. Luckily, my kids are pretty good in the car, but after 3 or 3.5 hours, the natives get restless. They want OUT! Amidst the "Mommy, I'm hungry", "Mama, she's looking at me", "MAMA, I NEED TO PEE" and all out screaming from the little one, I decided it would be a brilliant time to work on the body of my Rocky Coast. Nothing quite says chaos like screaming children and knitting some cables while my husband speeds down the highway during a snowstorm. Am I right? All I have to say is thank goodness my in-laws offered to watch the dog.

In between passing out snacks, refereeing yet another toy disagreement, navigating for my husband (the chauffeur), and answering "are we there yet?" from just about everyone, I made some great progress on my sweater.

Before starting I told myself that I would have the month of February to knit this. I work best under pressure. However, after re-starting my cardigan, I was certain that it would take me a few days or even weeks longer than that. I guess I'm used to knitting sweaters in lace weight, or even fingering weight. This is only the second sweater I've knit in DK/worsted. Luckily, I started the sleeves last night and am on track to finish by next Thursday. I have about half of the sleeves and the collar to knit - totally do able. As long as we don't take any more road trips.

  1. Oooo. It looks gorgeous. The color is absolutely divine. There are still 7 days left in February, so I think you've got this! ;-)

    1. Thanks Michelle! It's a shame this color is discontinued - I'd knit a few more projects with it if I could find it. I appreciate your optimism and I'll keep you posted on my progress.

  2. Looks so good! I'm taking a break from working on mine, as I had to make a lot of changes to the sleeves (read: lots of trips to the frog pond) and need something else to look at for a while :-)

    1. Thanks Leslie! I've read that a lot of people had problems with the sleeves. I think it's tough to maintain the cable pattern while decreasing and still have it look good. Plus the sleeves are tight in the all-over cable and I think the original pattern sizing didn't reflect that.
