Project bags - I have about a million of them. I use them for everything - knitting projects (obviously), spinning stuff, stray bits of yarn, printed patterns, works in progress (that I'll get to someday, promise!), extra yarn to go with the project I'm currently working on, projects that are in a time out, or things that just plain need to be frogged. And then there's the non-knitting related uses - there's a small one in the bottom of my purse to corral any odds and ends that somehow make their way into my purse, my son has absconded one to keep his action figures in, and I've even used one as a shoe bag when traveling.

I can use (and have used) just about anything as a project bag. I've used old cosmetic bags, mesh lingerie bags, cotton drawstring bags, heck I've even use a ziploc bag and old shopping bags in the past. Now that I have quite the selection, I save my nicer ones for my knitting related needs. You know the ones - they're soft, it has a drawstring (bonus points if it works well), there aren't any rips, and they're big enough for a WIP.

My absolute favorite project bags are from JennieGee. I think I have 4 (or maybe 5...who's counting anyway?). They are made out of cotton muslin, so they're super soft. Jennie hand-dyes and screen prints the bags individually. Talk about a labor of love!

I have at least one small bag (you can see the post about getting it here) and several large bags. I haven't purchased a tote yet, but it's next on my list. The small size is perfect size for a sock, hat or mitten project, while the larger size is great for nearly everything else. I say nearly because it will easily fit shawls, small sweaters, baby items, and more - but definitely not a men's worsted weight sweater or the gigantic blanket I tried to shove in there. You'd be better off with one of JennieGee's canvas totes for something of that size (hence it being next on my list).

JennieGee has graciously offered to give away a small project bag screen printed with "Keep Calm and Carry Yarn" to one of you (see details below)! And because she's really awesome, she's offering a 15% off coupon for the next month to all Knitwise, Purlwise readers! Use coupon code "WISE1" at checkout.

  15. Keep Calm in Red is my favorite! It matches my daughter's hockey jersey and her practices and games are where I do a lot of mindless knitting - so the bag would be practical as well as showing team spirit! LOL! KimKnitsDaily on Ravelry.
