I love Pendulum too! It's definitely on the list. I don't remember when I learned to knit, to be honest. My mum taught me, and I knit a lot when I was in high school and then knit only sporadically until the fall of 2011, when I really rediscovered it and got completely obsessed. And here I am! hannahr on Ravelry
ReplyDeleteMy mom taught me to knit when I was a child but I didn't stick with it. I retaught myself from books in my mid-thirties when I moved from Texas to Oregon. That first wet, rainy, dark winter I desperately needed an indoor hobby.
ReplyDeleteI learned about 5 years ago. I'm entirely self taught, from books, blogs and You Tube. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI learned to knit just before I got pregnant with my daughter six years ago. My husband had some friends from work over to watch a football game and one of them is an avid knitter. I'm not particularly into football and neither was she so she taught me to knit instead. That was it, a new knitter was born. :) I'm now teaching my daughter to knit!

I learned to knit from my mom when I was twelve but didn't stay with it. I relearned in college but got bored quickly. Finally in my thirties I started again and got hooked! :)

i also like hearing people's knitting histories.
ReplyDeletefor as long as i remember, i always wanted to learn how to knit. it just seemed so cool! so i borrowed those how-to books from the library, but i couldn't figure them out with no prior knowledge. even the beginner ones. but i was always a book-worm, so hung out at the library a lot. and it paid off. one day, a poster went up advertising free youth knitting lessons at the library. one of the librarians was a knitter. so i went for about a year. i was one of the only students. my first project was a bag. i was about 9. that was several years ago. since then, i've borrowed more books from the library, and then i discovered Ravelry. it was glorious! been hooked ever since. (even though it takes me forever to finish a project, being a student. and i have frequent fits of start-itis.)

I, like so many of us, learned when I was young. Then I just lost interest, but picked it up again as an adult with children. I gave up smoking when I knew we were going to start a family, but knitting is an addiction that I think I'll keep. And the kids just fuel this one even more!

I initially learned at school when about nine, later my Mom showed me some more. I finally knuckled down to actually completing a project when I was having my first child. I wanted to knit something fancy with holes in, I soon learned other people called it lace knitting!!!
ReplyDeleteLike many I learned as a child from my mother who was truly a master knitter. My passion was reignited about 20 years ago when I looked at a pattern in Vogue Knitting & understood it. Up until then, I simply knit stockinette! It's been all uphill & joy ever since.
ReplyDeleteAmazing giveaway,I am new beginner in knitting, using books and youtube.
ReplyDeleteHi Jenn
ReplyDeleteI'm Kate and my grandma taught me to knit when I was about 8 but I didn't really knit much. I picked it up again back in 2000 when a friend of mine was knitting easter chicks for charity. We both became additicted - my friend is Martine from the iMake blog and podcast and I write the Kate's Twirl blog, so you can see how much knitting means to us!!
I'm now following you on Twitter too - please follow back!
I learned the very basics of knitting when I was about 10 years in 1967 but really didn't get into it. In 2007, I saw one of local libraries was hosting a felted knitted bag class and asked my sister to go with me. I got a learn how to knit kit to practice before the class and surprising it came back to me. I been knitting everyday since October 2007.
ReplyDeleteI learned as a child from one of my teachers. As I got older I started and worked on other projects, cross-stitch, crochet and drawing. So in the last 5 years I picked up knitting again. Love it and you when you see me i would have needles in my hands. Hurray for all the knitters....

I just started learning how to knit in April during a class at my city's community center. Now I just need RL to leave me alone so I can play with my new skill.

My friend taught me how to knit when I was 10 years old in 2010, and I came completely addicted! I'm thirteen now, and still crazy about the fiber arts!

I learned to knit and crochet when I was young - my mom taught me. I didn't really get obsessed with it (in a good way!) until I had kids. Then, it started with baby blankets. Now that they are older, it is hats, socks - anything they request! Most of my knitting is 'sideline knitting' at all of their sports.
ReplyDeleteThanks!

I was taught how to cast on and how to knit by my sister in middle school, but I was too impatient to learn properly. I had another knitting episode in my junior year of high school when I attempted to knit booties for charity. Alas, nothing took root until after I graduated high school and found myself with tons of time (which I eventually put to use to learn how to knit and crochet!).
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway! :) My Rav ID is amigoodness
my best friend taught me how to purl when i was 13. after that i figured out a twisted knit and made hats and scarves on straight needles until those needles were stripped of their coating and bent out of shape.
ReplyDeleteafter that knitting didn't happen until 2012 when i was 20.
thanks for the opportunity to win!
I taught myself in 2003 when I went away to college. I learned from a Leisure Arts book! ~ K8erpillar on Ravelry :)

I learned to knit 10 years ago from a friend at work. We had lots of down time, and I brought some vintage needles and antique ugly yarn... and I was off! She taught me to purl the next day, and I kept reading, and learning from books.. still going strong now!
ReplyDeletePendulum is soooo pretty! What a great pattern!
ReplyDeleteMy Great Gram had a longstanding tradition of crocheting a ripple afghan for everyone in the family who got married and had a baby. She crocheted until her passing at age 96! I got married a few years after her she passed so I missed out on her sweet handiwork, however I still have the afghan she made for me when I was born 40 years ago.
When I was pregnant, I mentioned to my adopted Grammy (my late widowed grandfather's companion) that I'd planned to use my baby afghan for my son when he was born, she decided then and there to teach me how to crochet. I crocheted my son a blanket and it was like a gateway drug - I wanted to learn more! So she taught me the basics of knitting too, but her knowledge was limited to a simple cast on and the knit stitch. Again, gateway drug - I wanted to know how to make those tidy little V shapes (stockinette, haha!)and thanks to the internet I learned that and so much more. It wasn't long before I became Grammy's teacher, showing her new cast-ons, how to cable, and the magic of blocking lace. I even took up spinning and gifted her a skein of hand-spun yarn. She was so thrilled to see how the simple skills she taught me 10 years before had blossomed into a beautiful and satisfying hobby.
That was more than 10 years ago and to this day, each time I visit with my Grammy we knit together. The simple act of knitting has truly added a wonderful and treasured dimension to our relationship!
I learned just a couple of years ago. I learned to crochet first - about 8 years ago. My mother taught me the basics of both and then I went off flying. I have no fear in either craft... advanced techniques don't faze me. I might end up frogging a lot, but then again that happens with the simple ones too. (cnuland)
ReplyDeleteI learned to knit in Montessori school as a child. My whole class worked on a scarf for the priest. He even wore it when he came to visit the school.

i learnt about 6 years ago, however i didnt take to it very well at all, so gave up. then a couple of years ago i taught myself how to crochet, from there i taught myself to knit and i havent looked back, i find it helps my brain calm down, it helps my anxiety, it is so therapeutic.
ReplyDeleteI learned from library books and taught myself Summer 2005. I wanted all kinds of knitwear for myself. I first wanted socks, but had to start with a scarf.

I first learned knitting at primary school but later on at the age of 20 I really started knitting and learned by books, there was no computer at that time. I knitted for 10 years and stopped.
ReplyDeleteA few years ago I started knitting again and explored a totally exciting knitting world.

My mum taught me to knit when I was five. I started off with the usual doll's clothes and was knitting my own clothes by the time I was in my teens. Now I knit for her, as well as myself and my daughter!
